Modern Madonnas is a series of contemporary mixed media art built entirely on analog, manual intervention. It starts with original photographic work, printed, hand-collaged, overpainted and transformed into new, independent works – no digital retouching, no reproduction.
The technique echoes, in parts, positions like Arnulf Rainer or Franz West, without imitating them. The visual language of the Modern Madonnas is clearer, more contemporary and more strongly rooted in photography: layering, overlaps, lines, fields of color and fragmentation create a new, contemporary visual reality between photography and painting.
Every work is a genuine one-of-a-kind. No edition, no multiples, no variations. Modern Madonnas is aimed at collectors who look for original single pieces and prefer mixed media art that grows from a photographic base into a new, physical object.
Modern Madonnas in Context
The works of the Modern Madonnas series move between photography, collage and painting. Printed photographs are cut, layered, overpainted and combined into new pictorial surfaces. The original image remains as a trace, but is transformed through manual intervention into a contemporary mixed media art work.
Each work is made by hand and has its own character. There is no edition system and no repeatable process – even if a motif or a basic idea is worked on a second time, a new, independent variation with its own visual language develops. This means all works remain individual originals that cannot be reproduced or digitally generated.
