Nude Photography

One woman, one room, a little light.

For me, nude photography is not a genre but a reduction. One woman, one room, light that falls the way it falls. No staged poses, no soft focus, no effects to hide what is already there. What remains is the form – and the decision not to make it prettier than it is.

Most of these works take shape over years, on location: in apartments, hotels, stairwells, in places built for something else. Some images become calendars, others books, a few framed editions or unique pieces. What they share: each one is released in a limited run. Numbered, signed, with an end point. Once the last number is gone, there is no reprint.

This page is the way to the individual collections – from the limited calendars and books to the Collector’s Edition. If you would rather look first, start in the gallery.

Who’s behind the work

Martin Wieland is an Austrian fine art photographer based in Neunkirchen, Lower Austria. For decades he has worked with the human form – reduced, often in black and white, with strong contrast and precise use of light. His work appears in books such as “The Book” and “An Other Book” as well as in limited calendars and editions.

Published internationally, including cover features for Playboy South Africa and contributions to various trade magazines. The visual language stays the same throughout: no effect, no staging for its own sake. One form, one light, one decision.

More about the artist.

What you can buy

The nude photography of Martin Wieland is released exclusively as limited, signed editions – as a framed print, a calendar, a book, or a unique piece. Every collection follows the same principle: limited run, numbered, no reprint.

SIGNED.FRAMED.ICONIC. – framed editions, limited and signed. The direct way to put a work on the wall.

Calendars – “Black & White” and “All in Color,” the run tied to the edition year.

Books – “The Book” and “An Other Book.” Not a collection of nude shots, but studies of form and character.

Collector’s Edition – original prints in the smallest runs.

Modern Madonnas – overpainted unique pieces, together with Dietmar Halbauer. No work exists twice.

Limited means limited

Every work is released in a fixed run. Once the last number is gone, there is no reprint – no “let’s run it again,” no second series in another size. What’s sold out stays sold out.

This nude photography is not mass production but an edition with a clear limit. Every print is numbered and signed. With SIGNED.FRAMED.ICONIC. and the limited calendars the run is clearly capped, and with the calendars also tied to the edition year. The Collector’s Edition comes in small runs. The Modern Madonnas are always unique – each work exists only once.

That’s the difference between a print and a work: a print can be reproduced at will. A work has an end point.

On the wall, not on the hard drive

An image on a screen is an image on a screen. It vanishes in a folder, in the feed, in the next swipe. A printed work hangs on the wall and stays.

The free works come in two formats: SIGNED.FRAMED.ICONIC. – 13×18 cm, hand-signed, limited to 199 pieces and framed in a 20×30 cm passe-partout frame. And the Collector’s Edition – large format from 30×40 cm, framed on request. The calendars “Black & White” and “All in Color” and the books have become collector’s items over the years.

While the run lasts

Every edition has an end point. Once the last number is gone, there is no reprint. Wait, and you watch the works go to someone else.

The available works of this nude photography are in the shop – prints, calendars, books, Collector’s Edition, and unique pieces.
