Anyone who believes that art is created in kid gloves has never photographed in a condemned mansion. The standards out there are sweet, really. But when you’re knee-deep in rubble and you see that one light that blocks out everything else, it’s the result that counts. The girl in the picture knows exactly what she’s worth, no matter how much the walls are rotting around her. That’s the attitude I wanted to capture. Raw, direct and without the usual advertising bullshit. Take it or leave it. We snatched the moment out of time, just before the remodeling smoothed everything out.
