Technique & Materials<\/h3>\n

Every work in the Modern Madonnas series is a unique original \u2013 analog, real, tangible. Nothing is retouched here. Things are layered, torn, applied. Layer by layer, different materials are added, reworked, destroyed and rebuilt, until the surface develops not just depth but its own dynamic.<\/p>\n

The result: contemporary collage art with character \u2013 alive, authentic, unrepeatable.<\/p>\n

Sit in, Drop out<\/h3>\n

Three scraps of truth, glued into the brown, the rest pure line. The real face lowers its gaze, a breast lies bare, a knee flashes \u2014 and between them nothing but paper and a few thrown-down strokes. Nothing is filled in here, things are suggested, and that’s exactly what makes it sharper than any full nude. The image smells of ink and an afternoon when someone knew when to stop. Ink, pencil, kraft paper, no second one. You hang it because what’s left out works harder than what’s shown.<\/p>\n

The Creative Process<\/h3>\n

There is no fixed formula in the Modern Madonnas series. Each work grows from the interplay of material and intuition. The collages are not planned in advance \u2014 they develop in the process.<\/p>\n

Traces of handwork, small irregularities, deliberate imperfections \u2014 the process stays visible here. The works live from the human touch: from visible interventions that show a person, not a machine, was at work. That imperfection is exactly what makes them an authentic example of contemporary collage art.<\/p>\n

Every piece is created in close collaboration: the photographic foundation is established by Martin Wieland, while the collage, overpainting and material combinations are developed and executed by his art director Dietmar Halbauer. This creative exchange makes each work a layered, unique original.<\/p>\n
