What is a limited edition?
In the world of art, the term “limited edition” crops up time and again. But what does it actually mean? And how does a limited edition differ from a normal print? Especially with photographs that can theoretically be reproduced an infinite number of times, the question arises: how can you be sure that a limited edition is truly unique and valuable? In this article, I would like to explain from my point of view what limited editions mean and why they have a special significance.
My collector’s editions: What makes them special?
As an artist, it is important to me that my works are more than simple prints. In my Collectors Edition, I place the highest value on quality, authenticity and exclusivity. Each work is produced in a strictly limited edition ( = limited edition ), numbered and personally signed by me. A certificate of authenticity accompanies each work and guarantees that you own an authentic collector’s item. In addition, all Collector’s Edition images are registered online for maximum security. To guarantee authenticity, a hologram is affixed to both the artwork on the back and directly to the certificate, which is absolutely unique. You can view your work online at any time using the link on the certificate. This online certificate also contains the name of the buyer.
Why do I limit my works?
Photographs could theoretically be reproduced an infinite number of times – and that is precisely what makes their limitation so special. By limiting them, I create a value that goes far beyond the mere print. Each work becomes part of an exclusive series that will never be extended beyond the specified number. For you as a collector, this means that you own a truly unique piece within a limited series.
Modern Madonnas: Unique and unmistakable
Next to SIGNED.FRAMED.ICONIC and the Collectors Edition there are my Modern Madonnaswhich represent a very special category. These pieces are not part of a limited edition – they are truly unique. Each Modern Madonna starts with a photo I took of my models and is transformed into a completely new world through collaboration with my art director.
Loud, colorful, provocative, trashy, sensual and always an eye-catcher – these works push the boundaries of convention. What makes them even more special is that we deliberately censor them when we deem it necessary, but with creative techniques such as overpainting, collages or other unpredictable ideas. It is a silent protest against the rigid censorship on social media and at the same time an expression of complete artistic freedom.
A Modern Madonna work only exists once. It’s not just art, it’s a statement that changes your space and catches everyone’s eye.
Why do prices rise within an edition?
You may be wondering why the first copy of a limited edition is cheaper than the last. The reason is simple: with every work sold, the edition becomes scarcer – and therefore more valuable. The last copy is the final piece in the series and often has a special symbolic value. In addition, the rising price reflects the growing demand and the exclusivity of the remaining works. Trust through authenticity
When you buy a work, you want to know that it is genuine. Period. That’s why I personally sign every work and issue a detailed certificate of authenticity. With the Collectors Edition, you can be sure that each piece is part of a clearly defined series. With the Modern Madonnas, on the other hand, the unique pieces guarantee that no one else will own a work like yours.
