“They already looked good online. But when I saw it at home, it was outstanding. Martin even suggested the right frame – and it was spot on. Not cheap, but it lifts the artwork to an entirely different level.”
Barbara Weinzetl -1Maimuna from Vienna

Modern Madonnas aren’t polite living-room pieces. This is where photography, drawing and collage meet without apologising. “A Postcard from Mr. F” builds exactly on that friction: a photographic fragment as the head, a body beneath it that is only half finished – sketched in pencil, reinforced with ink, roughened at the edges through torn paper and exposed seams.

The figure may be seated, but the image is under tension. Nothing is smoothed out; everything stays visible: glue traces, overlaps, small imperfections. Instead of perfection, there is process. The black cut-outs on the left cling to the figure like thoughts you can’t get rid of; the red on the right strikes a hard counterpoint – a deliberate visual disruption. This Madonna is less icon, more protocol – of desire, control, resistance.

Every Modern Madonnas piece is an analogue original. No retouching, no digital layers, no second edition. What you see here exists exactly once – on this sheet, in this frame.

This artwork is not a classic print but an original – a unique piece (1/1). There is no edition, no reissue, no “second attempt” in another format. The price is based not on quantity but on uniqueness, material, and the value collectors place on contemporary collage with a recognisable signature.

The included certificate of authenticity documents this uniqueness and ensures long-term traceability – essential for collectors who value provenance as much as aesthetics.

The head says: studio, light, perfect hair. The rest says: “Stopped too early, but fine.” A naked body made only of lines, ink and a few omissions – exactly where you find yourself looking closer. Nothing is fully defined; everything remains one step before completion, as if someone stopped drawing mid-sentence.

The black scraps cling like thoughts you tried to throw away. The red on the right proves that never truly works – a stubborn mark in the image that refuses to disappear. And somewhere that tiny ticket fragment hangs, as if someone paid admission for a version of her that will never exist. This isn’t the polished final product; it’s what’s left when you remove all the lies.

Cover girl above, sketch below. As if someone finished only the essentials and left the rest to your imagination – out of pure defiance. The lines are quick, rough; the body half-there, half-not. The torn black areas on the left hold the image together like makeshift tape, the red piece on the right is the error that gets to stay. Nothing is softened, nothing aims to please.

She hangs somewhere between icon, sketch and evidence. Madonna, yes – but only if saints are allowed to have a bad day. Her gaze doesn’t invite; it slides past you, as if you were just another edge of the paper. And still you linger longer than you’d like. At some point you realise you’re not just a viewer but part of the problem this collage is made from.

The artwork comes in a high-quality object frame. The moulding has a depth of approx. 4.5 cm and a profile height of around 3 cm – enough space for the collage, paper edges and surface to breathe without being pressed flat.

It uses anti-reflective museum glass, the same type used in institutions such as the Albertina. It reduces reflections, protects from UV radiation and keeps the materiality of the work visible instead of hiding it behind glare.

If you prefer a different frame or want the artwork unframed, please contact us before purchasing. We’ll find a solution that fits your space and your budget.
